Pressure advance

Tells you: How to make up for the pressure inside the nozzle when the printer speeds up and slows down, so the line comes out even.

Calibration menu › Pressure advance (method “PA Line”, “PA Pattern” or “PA Tower”) · It works the same on any FDM printer. The menu is Bambu Studio's; Orca Slicer has a very similar one, and in other slicers you print the same test with a downloadable model. Can't see the menu?

How

  • With “PA Line”, the printer draws lines that alternate slow and fast sections, each with a different value (by default, from 0 to 0.1).
  • Look at the lines up close, ideally in good light.

How to read it

Pick the straightest line with the same thickness from end to end: no bulges where it slows down and no thin sections where it speeds up.

Bambu printers can measure this on their own before each print (the flow dynamics calibration option when you send the job). It works well most of the time, but a value measured by hand and saved gives you the same result every time.

0.020
0.020: too little compensation. When speeding up the pressure lags and the line thins; when slowing down there's too much and a bulge forms. Pick a line with a higher value.

On a Bambu, save it in the Calibration tab › Flow Dynamics › Manage Result, and assign it to the filament in the Device tab.

Where the value goes: On Bambu Lab printers this value isn't written into the filament profile (it's hidden). It's saved in the Calibration tab › Flow Dynamics › Manage Result, and assigned to the filament in the Device tab. The filament type has to match the profile's.
