Test 6 of 8

Tolerances

Tells you: How much clearance your fits need.

Bambu Studio doesn't include this test: download a tolerance model (rings or pins with increasing clearances) from MakerWorld or Printables. · It works the same on any FDM printer. The menu is Bambu Studio's; Orca Slicer has a very similar one, and in other slicers you print the same test with a downloadable model. Can't see the menu?

How

  • Set “X-Y hole compensation” and “X-Y contour compensation” to 0 and print the model.
  • Try which pieces go in and which don't.

How to read it

The first clearance that doesn't fit marks your printer's limit: use the previous one as a reference for your designs, or compensate in the slicer.

If you paint the model in several colors, Bambu Studio doesn't apply X-Y compensation: then the clearance has to be in the design.

won't go inclearance 0.15 mm(exaggerated)pin and hole from the test, cut in half
0.15 mm
0.15 mm: in this example it won't go in. The printer makes the hole slightly smaller and the pin slightly bigger than drawn, and that eats up the clearance.

What you read on the piece

0.2 mm

Draw your fits with at least this clearance. If you want them tighter, adjust the X-Y compensations 0.05 mm at a time and test again.

Where the value goes: Process › Quality › Precision, or directly in the design.
