X-Y hole compensation
Makes every hole in the part bigger or smaller without touching the outer outline. It helps screws, pins and magnets fit.
How it works
Printed holes almost always come out a little smaller than designed: the plastic shrinks as it cools and the nozzle rounds off the curves on the inside. A 6.0 mm hole usually measures 5.8 or 5.9 mm.
This value moves the edge of each hole outward (positive) or inward (negative). Since it moves the edge all the way around, the diameter changes by twice the value: at 0.15 mm, a 6.0 mm hole becomes 6.3 mm.
It only affects holes that are closed within a layer. Side holes in a box, which leave the outline open on those layers, don't count as holes.
When to change it
- An M3 screw that won't go into its hole, a pin that's too tight or a magnet you have to force: raise it in steps of 0.05 mm.
- To get it right the first time: print a test strip with several diameters and see which one fits.
- You switched filament: calibrate again, because the result depends on each material.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0 | No correction (default)default |
| 0.1 | Typical correction for PLA |
| 0.15 | Screws that must slide through without cutting a thread |
| 0.3 | Only if the test calls for it |
Watch out for
- Before compensating, rule out other causes: wet filament, too much plastic (badly calibrated flow), elephant foot on the first layer, or the seam sitting inside the hole.
- Holes smaller than 1 mm are hard to correct this way.
- If the model has side openings, there's no “hole” on those layers and this value does nothing; use “X-Y contour compensation”.
