A throwaway tower where the nozzle gets rid of leftovers from the previous color after each filament change. With several colors, it's what keeps the colors clean.
How it works
When you change filament, some of the old plastic stays in the nozzle. The printer purges most of it through the waste chute at the back, but not all: the tower takes the last leftovers and steadies the pressure in the nozzle before going back to the part.
It comes turned on, but it only shows up on the plate if the print has several filaments, if “Timelapse” is set to “Smooth”, or if you turn on “Enable clumping detection”. On a single-color print it isn't generated.
When to change it
- A two-color keychain or a sign with letters in another color: leave it on.
- A multicolor prototype to check dimensions, where a few smudges at color changes don't matter: you can turn it off to save plastic.

Watch out for
- It can't be combined with printing by object or with “Independent support layer height”.
- The tower goes up to the last layer with a color change: if the changes are near the top, the tower is taller and uses more; rotating the part can save a lot.
- How much gets purged at each change is set in the flushing volumes (next to the filament list), not here.

The wiping tower can be used to clean up the residue on the nozzle and stabilize the chamber pressure inside the nozzle, in order to avoid appearance defects when printing objects.
