In Bambu Studio, the profile 0.20mm Standard @BBL A1 sets it totree(auto)
Whether the support is straight columns (“normal”) or branches that dodge the part (“tree”), and whether the slicer decides where it goes (“auto”) or it only goes where you paint it (“manual”).
How it works
“Normal” builds straight columns up from the plate or from the part, with a dense sheet (the interface) where it touches the part: it's solid and predictable, but leaves more of a mark. “Tree” grows branches that dodge the part and only touch it where needed: it uses less plastic, comes off more easily and is the usual choice for figures.
In the “auto” variants, the slicer detects overhangs based on the “Threshold angle”. In the “manual” ones, it only adds support under the areas you paint with the support painting tool (in the top toolbar, in the Prepare view). Anything you don't paint is printed without help.
When to change it
- Figures, outstretched arms, organic shapes: Tree (auto). It's the default on the A1.
- Large flat surfaces floating in the air (the roof of an open box): Normal (auto), or Tree with the “Tree Hybrid” style.
- If auto adds support where you don't want it, or it's only needed in a couple of spots (the tip of a sword): paint those areas and use a manual variant.

Watch out for
- With a manual type and nothing painted, the part prints with no support at all, even with the box checked.
- You can also paint blockers (with the right mouse button) so auto doesn't add support in an area; that works with the auto types.
- With an AMS (the automatic filament changer) you can print the support interface in another material, and it comes off almost by itself.
