Threshold angle
In Bambu Studio, the profile 0.20mm Standard @BBL A1 sets it to30°
The slope at which a downward-facing face starts getting support. The angle is measured between that face and the horizontal: at 30°, faces flatter than 30° get support and steeper ones print on their own.
How it works
Look at the part from below: every face that hangs down makes an angle with the horizontal. A nearly horizontal face (few degrees) is a roof in mid-air and needs support. A nearly vertical face (many degrees) holds itself up, because each layer sticks out only a little past the one below. The threshold is the line the slicer uses to decide.
With the auto types, any face sloped less than this angle gets support. Raising it adds support to steeper slopes too (safer, more plastic); lowering it leaves more faces without help.
When to change it
- PLA on a Bambu printer: the default 30° works. On many parts you can go down to 25° and save support.
- PETG, TPU, or a figure whose sloped faces come out ugly underneath (the chin, the brim of a hat): raise it to 35–40°.
- With thick layers (over 0.20 mm) faces droop sooner: raise the threshold. With fine layers you can lower it: the 0.08 mm profiles use 15°.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 30° | PLA; defaultdefault |
| 15–25° | Fine layers, less support |
| 35–45° | Droopy materials, thick layers |
Watch out for
- It only counts for the auto types: with a manual type, support goes where you paint it, regardless of angle.
- At 90° everything gets support; at 1°, almost nothing. The extremes make no sense.
- There's a separate detection for “critical” overhangs (tips, tails) that kicks in even if they don't reach the threshold.
Goes well with
What Bambu Studio says
Support will be generated for overhangs whose slope angle is below the threshold.
