Brim-object gap
The gap between the brim's innermost line and the part. Small, it holds more; large, it comes off more easily.
Greyed out (you can see it but not change it) unless “Brim type” is not “No-brim”. See Brim type.
How it works
If the brim fuses completely with the part, pulling it off takes a bit of the edge with it. A gap of a tenth of a millimeter keeps it stuck just enough to hold and snap off cleanly.
It applies to both the automatic and the manual brim.
When to change it
- For almost anything: 0.1 mm, the profile value.
- The brim on a tall tower comes loose by itself during the print and doesn't hold: 0 or 0.05 mm.
- The brim on a gear is hard to pull off or leaves a lip on the teeth: 0.15–0.2 mm.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.1 mm | Defaultdefault |
| 0 | Maximum hold |
| 0.15–0.2 mm | Comes off more easily |
Watch out for
- If there's still a gap at 0, it's because of “Elephant foot compensation”, which shrinks the part's first layer so it doesn't come out wider than it should.
- It's grayed out when the type is “No-brim”.
