Initial layer flow ratio
Multiplies the amount of plastic only on the first layer. A little more helps it stick to the plate; too much leaves blobs and ridges.
How it works
The first layer gets pressed against the plate, and a bit of extra plastic fills small unevenness better and increases the area that sticks. That's why some people set 1.02 or 1.05 here on tricky plates.
Overdoing it has the opposite effect: the leftover plastic piles up in front of the nozzle, sticks to it and ends up dropping somewhere else on the part. On top of that, the bottom edge comes out flared (“elephant foot”).
When to change it
- A flat keychain whose first layer shows gaps between lines, even though the first layer height is right: raise it to 1.03.
- A base with blobs, ridges or the nozzle dragging plastic on the first layer: lower it to 0.97.
- A textured or somewhat worn plate where parts don't quite stick: try 1.05.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.97 | First layer that overflows |
| 1 | Defaultdefault |
| 1.05 | Uneven plates or poor grip |
Watch out for
- Before changing this, check the first layer height and that the plate is clean: that's almost always where the problem is.
- It only shows up with developer mode turned on in Preferences.
