Tower priming on filament change
How much plastic the nozzle leaves on the prime tower after switching filament, so the new color comes out clean.
How it works
When you switch filament, some of the previous one stays in the nozzle. Before going back to the part, the printer prints a stretch on the prime tower with the new filament; this value is how much plastic goes there, in mm³.
Most of a color change is purged separately, with the project's flushing volumes; this is what's printed on the tower on top of that. It only matters if you print with several filaments and a prime tower (on the A1, with the AMS lite).
When to change it
- A multicolor part where a bit of the previous color leaks in: raise it to 40–60 mm³.
- Lots of color changes and a huge tower: lower it a little, checking the part stays clean.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 30 mm³ | PLA Basicdefault |
Watch out for
- More priming means more filament in the bin and a bigger tower.
- With a single filament there are no changes, and this value does nothing.

Using another slicer? Look for the idea, not the name: in Orca Slicer almost everything has the same name; in PrusaSlicer or Cura it may be called something else, or not exist.
