Wall transition filter margin
With Arachne: how much a wall's width can vary before the program decides to split it into two or merge two into one. More margin, fewer transitions.
How it works
Arachne would rather widen or narrow a line than change the number of walls. This margin widens the range of widths it accepts: from “Minimum wall width” minus the margin up to twice that width plus the margin. It's expressed as a percentage of the nozzle diameter: with a 0.4 mm nozzle, 25% is 0.1 mm.
With more margin there are fewer starts and stops and fewer moves without printing. But the lines change width more, and a big change in width is a big change in the amount of plastic, which can show on the surface.
When to change it
- A box with smooth walls that shows lots of little transition marks: raise it to 35 or 50%.
- A bracket with lines that are visibly thicker in some areas: lower it to 10 or 15%.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 1% | Many transitions, nearly constant width |
| 25% | Defaultdefault |
| 50% | Few transitions, very variable width |
Watch out for
- It only does anything with the Arachne wall generator.

What Bambu Studio says
Prevent transitioning back and forth between one extra wall and one less. This margin extends the range of extrusion widths which follow to [Minimum wall width - margin, 2 * Minimum wall width + margin]. Increasing this margin reduces the number of transitions, which reduces the number of extrusion starts/stops and travel time. However, large extrusion width variation can lead to under- or overextrusion problems. It's expressed as a percentage over nozzle diameter
