Layer time to raise the fan
Layers that take less than this push the fan above its minimum. The shorter the layer, the more air.
How it works
Below this time, the program spreads the speed between the minimum and the maximum according to how long the layer takes: a layer of a few seconds goes almost to the maximum, one that takes nearly this long stays near the minimum.
Above it, the fan stays at the minimum, or off if “Keep fan always on” is off.
When to change it
- PLA: a long time (PLA Basic: 80 s), so almost every layer gets good air.
- Materials that don't want air, like ABS: a shorter time, so only small layers raise the fan.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 80 s | PLA Basicdefault |
Watch out for
- It has to be greater than the max threshold “Layer time”; otherwise there's no middle range and the fan jumps from maximum to minimum.

What Bambu Studio says
Part cooling fan will be enabled for layers of which estimated time is shorter than this value. Fan speed is interpolated between the minimum and maximum fan speeds according to layer printing time
