Conformal infill

Makes the infill lines follow the shape of each layer, instead of all running parallel at a fixed angle. On long or curved parts, they fan out from the center, like the spokes of a wheel.

Not always visible. In Bambu Studio this setting only shows up when “Sparse infill density” is greater than 0 and “Sparse infill pattern” is “Zig Zag” or “Cross Zag” or “Locked Zag” or “Rectilinear” or “Aligned Rectilinear”. See Sparse infill density, Sparse infill pattern.

How it works

Regular infill is a set of parallel lines trimmed by the outline of the part: it doesn't know what shape the part is. Conformal infill looks at the outline of each layer and draws the lines following it, or outward from a center on elongated shapes.

The result is infill that follows the shape: it braces against the walls better and spreads strength according to the part. It only works with the “Zig Zag”, “Cross Zag”, “Locked Zag”, “Rectilinear” and “Aligned Rectilinear” patterns. Turning it on reveals its settings: layer stagger, forward and reverse layers, radial center, radial line count and center region.

When to change it

  • A curved handle, a bracelet or an organic-shaped figure, where parallel infill gets chopped into loose pieces: turn it on.
  • A long, thin part, like a ruler or a support bar: turn it on so the infill runs along the length of the part.
  • Boxes and straight shapes: it adds nothing; leave it off.

Watch out for

  • It only shows up with the compatible patterns listed above.
  • It's a new feature: check the preview, because on complicated shapes it can leave odd areas.

What Bambu Studio says

Make sparse infill follow each layer's outline instead of using one set of parallel lines. On elongated or curved shapes, lines radiate from a center. Applies to Zig Zag, Cross Zag, Rectilinear, Aligned Rectilinear, and Locked Zag skin.
