Minimum feature size

With Arachne: how thick a detail in the model has to be before it gets printed. Anything thinner is ignored; anything above the threshold is thickened up to the “Minimum wall width”.

Not always visible. In Bambu Studio this setting only shows up when “Wall generator” is “Arachne”. See Wall generator.

How it works

A model can have things a tenth of a millimeter thick: the edges of a logo, tiny text or stray leftovers in the 3D file. Trying to print them gives you strings, blobs and incomplete outlines. This threshold works as a filter. It's measured as a percentage of the nozzle diameter: with a 0.4 mm nozzle, 25% is 0.1 mm, and everything thinner disappears.

Whatever passes the filter but is still thinner than the “Minimum wall width” (0.34 mm) isn't printed as is: it's thickened up to that width so it has enough plastic. So a 0.25 mm line of text comes out at 0.34 mm, a little fatter but complete.

When to change it

  • A keychain with text thinner than the nozzle that's missing in the preview: with Arachne, leave it at 25% or lower it to 10%.
  • A downloaded model with little hairs and stray bits that print as blobs: raise it to 40%.

Typical values

ValueWhat for
0%Filters nothing
10%Lets through details of 0.04 mm
25%Default (0.1 mm)default
100%Ignores everything thinner than the nozzle

Watch out for

  • At 100%, everything thinner than 0.4 mm disappears, including small letters.
  • It only does anything with the Arachne wall generator.

What Bambu Studio says

Minimum thickness of thin features. Model features that are thinner than this value will not be printed, while features thicker than the Minimum feature size will be widened to the Minimum wall width. It's expressed as a percentage over nozzle diameter
