Interface shells
Adds solid layers at the boundary between two materials, or two touching parts of the same object. It's for multi-filament prints where one is translucent or is a soluble support you placed yourself.
How it works
When an object is made of several parts (several filaments, or a model split into pieces that touch), the program normally lets the infill of the two parts meet with nothing solid in between. With a translucent filament, the neighboring part's infill shows through; with a soluble support touching it, the part ends up with the infill's texture.
With this option, a solid strip is printed on each side of every boundary between parts, like an inner wall.
When to change it
- A two-color lamp with a translucent PLA shade: turn it on so the other part's infill doesn't show through.
- A soluble support you added yourself as part of the model, under an overhang: turn it on so the contact face comes out smooth.
- A print with a single filament and a single part: it does nothing.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| Off | Defaultdefault |
| On | Solid layers at every boundary between parts |
Watch out for
- It adds plastic and time across the whole contact area.
- It only shows up with developer mode turned on (in Preferences).
