Filter out tiny gaps
Gaps between walls that are narrower than this value are left empty instead of being filled with tiny bits of line. Raising it saves pointless moves; at 0 everything gets filled.
How it works
When two walls come close together and the space between them isn't wide enough for another loop, the slicer fills it with “gap infill”: short lines that zigzag through that space. In very small gaps these are bits a tenth of a millimeter long that lay down almost no plastic, and each one costs a start and a stop.
With this threshold, gaps narrower than the value are ignored. At 0 (the factory value) everything is filled.
When to change it
- A sign with thin lettering or a gear with narrow teeth, where the preview shows lots of little bits between walls and the printer shakes while doing them: 0.1 or 0.2 mm.
- A shelf bracket or any part that will carry weight: leave it at 0 so no empty spots are left behind.
- The usual choice: 0.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0 | Default; everything gets filleddefault |
| 0.1 | Skips gaps of a tenth of a millimeter |
| 0.3 | Also leaves medium gaps empty |
Watch out for
- A gap left empty is a weak spot: don't raise this value much on parts that take a load.
- It only shows up with developer mode turned on in Preferences.
