Embed the wall into the infill
Where an area with walls meets one without them, it pushes the wall into the neighboring infill on alternating layers, so the two areas lock together firmly.
How it works
With a modifier you can make an area of the part print without walls, as infill only. At the boundary between that area and the rest, the wall on one side just butts up against the infill on the other in a straight joint, which is a weak spot.
With this option, on alternating layers the wall extends into the infill of the wall-less area. That creates a staggered pattern, like the bricks in a wall, which holds much better than a straight joint. In the program it's called “Embedding the wall into the infill”.
When to change it
- A part where a modifier leaves an area without walls (for example, the inside of a handle you want as continuous infill) and that area has to stay firmly attached to the surrounding shell: turn it on.
- A normal part, with no modifiers removing walls: not needed; it changes nothing.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| Off | Defaultdefault |
| On | The wall locks into the wall-less area |
Watch out for
- It only acts on boundaries where one side has a wall and the other doesn't; the normal joints between wall and infill inside a part stay the same.
