Skirt distance
How many millimeters from the part the skirt is drawn. Close, it shields better from air; far, it doesn't brush anything.
Greyed out (you can see it but not change it) unless “Skirt loops” is greater than 0. See Skirt loops.
How it works
The skirt goes around the part (or around the brim, if there is one) at this distance. At 2 mm it's close but doesn't touch; if you bring it down to 0, it fuses with the part and acts as a brim.
If you use a tall skirt as a draft shield, the closer it is, the better it shields.
When to change it
- For almost anything: 2 mm, the default.
- A tall skirt as a draft shield around an ABS box: 3–5 mm, so it doesn't brush the part.
- With a plate full of small parts: you can raise it, but check that it fits.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 2 mm | Defaultdefault |
| 3–5 mm | Draft shield |
| 0 | Becomes a brim |
Watch out for
- It's grayed out if “Skirt loops” is 0.
- In some versions it only shows up in developer mode.
