Independent support layer height
Lets the support print with thicker layers than the part whenever it can, to save time. The part doesn't change.
How it works
The body of the support doesn't need the part's fine detail: nobody's going to see it. With this box checked, the slicer prints it with taller layers (it merges several of the part's layers into a single support layer) and saves a lot of time on parts with lots of support.
The support layers close to the part go back to the normal height so the interface (the layer that touches the part) fits. With it off, the support follows the part's layers exactly.
When to change it
- A single-color figure with lots of support, printed with fine 0.12 mm layers: leave it on, as it comes by default; the support will print faster.
- A multicolor part with a prime tower, or thick support that gives you trouble with several filaments: turn it off.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| On | Faster support; defaultdefault |
| Off | Support copies the part's layers |
Watch out for
- It doesn't work with the prime tower turned on: the two are incompatible.
- In the preview by layer height, the support shows up in a different color: that's normal.

What Bambu Studio says
Support layer uses layer height independent with object layer. This is to support customizing z-gap and save print time. This option will be invalid when the prime tower is enabled.
