Slow down to cool layers
If a layer prints too fast to cool, the printer makes it slower. Tips and small details come out crisp instead of melted.
How it works
On a tiny layer, the nozzle comes back to the same spot before the plastic hardens, and keeps heating it. With this option, the printer slows that layer down so it takes at least the maximum fan speed “Layer time” (6 s in PLA Basic).
With this option on you can also use “Don't slow down outer walls”, which only slows down on the inside so the visible face doesn't change shine.
When to change it
- Almost always: on (default).
- A large part where no layer is short: it makes no difference.
- Only if you need speed and don't mind the detail: off.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| On | Defaultdefault |
| Off | Faster, worse detail |
Watch out for
- The speed never drops below “Min print speed” (an advanced setting), so a minuscule layer can still come out a bit soft. Printing two parts at once gives it more time to cool.

What Bambu Studio says
Enable this option to slow printing speed down to make the final layer time not shorter than the layer time threshold in "Max fan speed threshold", so that layer can be cooled for a longer time. This can improve the cooling quality for needle and small details
