Reduce infill retraction

Whether the printer pulls the filament back (retraction) when it moves without printing inside the infill. “Auto” skips it for filaments that ooze little (PLA) and keeps it for those that ooze more (PETG).

How it works

Retraction keeps the nozzle from oozing while it travels from one spot to another. Inside the infill, a little string doesn't matter because nobody sees it, so skipping retraction on those moves saves time and wear. But with filaments that ooze a lot, the plastic that comes out builds up and can poke through or leave blobs.

“Auto” decides based on the filament type; “Enabled” never retracts in the infill; “Disabled” always retracts.

When to change it

  • For almost everything: Auto (default).
  • A PETG part with blobs or strings in the infill that show through the top: Disabled.
  • A batch of quick PLA parts where you want to save every minute: Enabled.

What Bambu Studio says

Controls whether retraction is skipped when traveling within the infill area. "Auto" enables this optimization for filaments with low metal stickiness (e.g. PLA) and disables it for medium/high metal stickiness filaments (e.g. PETG) to avoid oozing artifacts. "Enabled" always skips retraction in infill areas regardless of filament type. "Disabled" always retracts normally.
