Overhang speed, 50 to 75%

How fast wall lines go when they hang out between half and three quarters of their width. More of it hangs than rests on something: it has to go slowly.

Not always visible. In Bambu Studio this setting only shows up when “Slow down for overhang” is on. See Slow down for overhang.

How it works

With more than half of the bead of plastic in the air, only a thin strip holds it to the layer below. At 30 mm/s (the factory value), the fan has time to harden it before the next layer lands on top.

When to change it

  • The chin of a bust or the wing of a plane, with 50–60° overhangs that come out stringy: lower it to 20 mm/s.
  • The usual choice: leave it at 30 mm/s.

Typical values

ValueWhat for
20Tough overhangs
30Defaultdefault
50Faster; only with good cooling

Watch out for

  • In these ranges part cooling matters as much as speed: the filament profile already turns the fan up on overhangs (“Fan speed for overhang”).
