Top area threshold
How wide a top surface has to be before “Only one wall on top surfaces” is applied to it. Raising it protects thin steps, which keep their normal walls.
How it works
On a sphere or a dome, each layer leaves a tiny ring of “top surface” around it. If every one of those rings gets a single wall, they come out weak and textured. This threshold sets the minimum width a surface needs to count as a top. It's measured as a percentage of the line width: with 0.42 mm lines, the default (200%) is 0.84 mm.
At 500% (2.1 mm), only surfaces wider than 2.1 mm get one wall; the thin rings keep their normal walls and the curve comes out smoother. The highest face of the part isn't affected by this threshold.
When to change it
- A ball, a dome or a figurine's head that comes out with visible rings on the curved part: raise it to 300–500%.
- A box or sign with normal flat tops: leave the default.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 100% | Almost everything counts as a top |
| 200% | Default; leaves out rings under 0.84 mmdefault |
| 300% | Leaves out rings under 1.3 mm |
| 500% | Only wide tops; smoother curves |
Watch out for
- It only shows up with developer mode turned on (in Preferences) and when “Only one wall on top surfaces” is not set to “Not apply”.
