Minimum layer time
Layers that take less than this run the fan at maximum and, if it's on, the printer slows them down so they last at least this long.
How it works
It's the threshold for the shortest layers. Below it, the fan runs at maximum. And if “Slow printing down for better layer cooling” is on, the printer slows that layer until it takes this long, so the previous one has time to harden.
In the program it shows up as “Layer time”, on the maximum fan speed row.
When to change it
- PLA: 6 s, as in PLA Basic.
- Thin tips that still come out deformed: raise it to 8–10 s.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 6 s | PLA Basicdefault |
| 8–10 s | Very fine tips and details |
Watch out for
- A high time slows small parts down a lot: a single tiny part will take longer than you expect.
- If you print several parts at once, each layer takes longer and you'll barely notice.

What Bambu Studio says
The printing speed in exported gcode will be slowed down, when the estimated layer time is shorter than this value, to get better cooling for these layers
