Beam interlocking
Along the border between two filaments, generate small beams that cross like the fingers of two hands, so the materials don't come apart. Very useful with PLA and TPU, or with support filament.
How it works
Two different materials that only touch along one face separate easily. With this option, the slicer puts small beams of one material inside the other along the border, like a jigsaw puzzle, and the bond becomes mechanical, not just sticking.
The settings that follow (width, direction, layers, depth and distance from the outside) define the shape and size of those teeth.
When to change it
- A wheel with a TPU tire on a PLA hub that comes apart: turn it on.
- Other two-material parts that separate (PETG + PLA): turn it on.
- A keychain in the same PLA in two colors: usually not needed.
Typical values

| On | Different materials |
Watch out for
- The teeth show if they reach the surface; “Interlocking boundary avoidance” hides them.
- Adds filament changes in the joint area.

What Bambu Studio says
Generate interlocking beam structure at the locations where different filaments touch. This improves the adhesion between filaments, especially models printed in different materials.
