Infill shift step
With “Cross Zag” or “Locked Zag”: shifts the pattern a few tenths of a millimeter on each layer, to create a 3D crisscross texture.
How it works
If each layer lands exactly on the one below, the lines stack into columns. If the pattern shifts 0.4 mm (the default) on each layer, the lines of one layer cross the gaps of the previous one and the whole thing interlocks, like a woven fabric. It holds together better between layers and has a distinctive texture.
When to change it
- The usual: 0.4 mm.
- A lamp or a basket in translucent filament, where the infill mesh is part of the design: 0.8–1 mm, for a bolder texture.
- You want the lines stacked in straight columns: 0.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0 | No shift; columns |
| 0.4 | Defaultdefault |
| 1 | Very bold texture |
Watch out for
- It only shows up with “Cross Zag” or “Locked Zag”.
