Tree branch distance
How many millimeters apart the tree support places its contact points under an overhang (a part of the model in the air). Closer together, the underside comes out better, but there are more branches to remove.
How it works
The tree doesn't hold up the whole overhang: it spreads contact points (the branch tips) across its underside, and the branches come down from there. This setting is the distance between those points.
With points every 2 mm, the face rests almost as if on a solid sheet; with points every 8 mm, the overhang sags between supports and the face comes out wavy.
When to change it
- For almost anything: 5 mm, the default.
- The brim of a hat on a figure comes out wavy between contact points, and it shows: 2–3 mm.
- A decorative dragon where all that matters is that the arms don't fall: 6–8 mm.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 5 mm | Defaultdefault |
| 2–3 mm | Better underside |
| 6–8 mm | Fewer branches |
Watch out for
- It only exists for tree supports.
- With large flat overhangs, the “Tree Hybrid” style uses normal columns and this setting matters less.
