Gap closing radius
When the model is cut into layers, cracks narrower than twice this radius get filled in automatically. It fixes models with tiny errors without touching the design.
How it works
Many downloaded models come with microscopic cracks: two faces that don't quite touch, a gap of hundredths of a millimeter between two parts. If the slicer kept them, you'd get split walls or holes in the part.
With this radius, any crack narrower than 2 × 0.049 = 0.098 mm is treated as an error and closed. Real slots, which measure tenths of a millimeter or more, are left alone.
When to change it
- Almost never. A model with bigger cracks is better fixed with the slicer's mesh repair or in the design program.
- A part with fine designed slots (0.1 mm), like a tiny grille, that vanish when you slice: lower it to 0.02.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.02 | Keeps very fine slots |
| 0.049 | Defaultdefault |
| 0.2 | Closes gaps up to 0.4 mm; loses detail |
Watch out for
- Closing gaps takes precision away from the outline: high values round off fine details.

What Bambu Studio says
Cracks smaller than 2x gap closing radius are being filled during the triangle mesh slicing. The gap closing operation may reduce the final print resolution, therefore it is advisable to keep the value reasonably low.
