Support/object XY distance
The horizontal gap the support leaves from the part's vertical walls, so it doesn't fuse with them or leave marks.
How it works
A support that climbs right against a wall of the part fuses to it along its whole height: it marks the wall and is hard to pull off. This margin keeps it a few tenths of a millimeter away from the wall.
The bigger it is, the cleaner the wall, but the strip of the overhang (the part in the air) right at the corner with the wall is left unsupported. The “Z overrides X/Y” option lets the support get closer only under the overhang.
When to change it
- For almost anything: 0.35 mm, the default.
- The support leaves streaks on the smooth wall of a vase or a box: 0.5–0.8 mm.
- The roof of a model house curls right where it meets the wall: 0.2 mm, or turn on “Z overrides X/Y”.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.35 mm | Defaultdefault |
| 0.5–0.8 mm | Cleaner walls |
| 0.2 mm | Better-supported corners |
Watch out for
- The first layer uses a different setting: “Support/object first layer gap”.
- With support filament (a special one that doesn't stick to the part) you can lower it without worrying about fusing.
