First layer line width
How wide the lines of the first layer are. Making them a little wider than the rest helps the part grip the plate.
How it works
The first layer is the only one pressed against the plate, and a wider line at the same height is a more squished line: more contact area and more grip. That's why the profiles set it to 0.5 mm while the rest use 0.42.
It applies to the walls, supports and brim of the first layer. The infill of that layer has its own setting (“Initial layer infill”), which uses this value when set to 0. And if this setting is 0, the “Default” width is used.
When to change it
- A long part, like a ruler or a tray, that lifts at the corners even though you already cleaned the plate: try 0.5 or 0.55 mm.
- A coaster with text or a logo engraved on the bottom: lower it to 0.42 or 0.45 mm, because the wide line blurs it.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.42 | Same as the rest; crisper bottom |
| 0.50 | Standard in Bambu Studio; better gripdefault |
| 0.55 | Smooth plates or tall, narrow parts |
Watch out for
- Wider also means more plastic on the slowest, hottest layer: if the nozzle drags plastic or leaves blobs, lower the width a little or the “Initial layer flow ratio”.
- It won't fix a badly leveled plate or a wrongly set first layer height; sort that out first.
