Slicing mode
How the slicer reads the model's shape: regular, even-odd (for thin surfaces that cross each other, as in 3DLabPrint airplanes) or closing the holes.
How it works
On each layer, the slicer has to decide what is “inside” and what is “outside”. With a closed, well-made model, the regular mode works. Some models are designed with thin surfaces that cross each other (like the single-wall ribs of RC airplanes), and the regular mode gets them wrong.
“Even-odd” counts how many times a point is enclosed: inside once is solid; inside twice is hollow. “Close holes” fills any hole in the layer, round or not.
When to change it
- For almost everything: Regular (default).
- A 3DLabPrint RC airplane or a similar model: Even-odd.
- You want a solid version of a bracket with screw holes without editing the model: Close holes, and check the preview.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| Regular | Defaultdefault |
| Even-odd | Airplanes with crossing surfaces |
| Close holes | Fill holes without editing |
Watch out for
- “Close holes” only fills holes that form a closed outline within their layer; holes that go through the part sideways are not closed.
- “Even-odd” on a normal model with overlapping parts leaves gaps where it shouldn't.
