Support interface ironing
Smooths the top of the support interface (or of the raft) with the nozzle before the part rests on it, so the part's underside comes out smoother.
How it works
Ironing is a pass of the hot nozzle, laying almost no plastic, over a freshly printed surface: it melts the ridges between lines and leaves it smooth. It's normally used on the top face of the part; here it's used on the top face of the support, right where the part will rest.
Turning it on reveals its own pattern, speed, flow, spacing, inset and direction settings, just like regular ironing.
When to change it
- The underside of a part that will be on show and that you can't orient any other way (the wing of a toy plane), with support filament in the interface.
- A part resting on a raft whose base you want as smooth as possible.
- It isn't worth it on parts where the supported face doesn't matter: it only adds time.
