Outer wall line width
How wide the line that forms the visible face of the part is. Thinner gives better detail; wider is sturdier but less crisp.
How it works
Of all the lines, the outer wall is the only one you see and touch, so its width sets the finest detail the part can have: corners, letters, rounded edges.
The profiles leave it at 0.42 mm, just a bit wider than the nozzle, so it fuses well with the inner wall. The inner wall usually runs at 0.45 mm, a little wider, because it's hidden and adds body.
When to change it
- A keychain with small text, a miniature or a part with sharp edges: lower it to 0.35 or 0.40 mm.
- A thick technical part, like a hinge or a bracket, where strength matters more than looks: raise it to 0.45 or 0.5 mm.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.36 | Fine detail |
| 0.42 | Standarddefault |
| 0.50 | Sturdier, less crisp |
Watch out for
- Very thin and very fast, the thread stretches and gaps appear between passes; make up for it by lowering the “Outer wall” speed (Speed tab).
- Changing it alters the total thickness of the shell (number of walls times their width); check that all the walls still fit in the thin areas.
