Top surface line width
How wide the lines of the last layer, the top face, are. Thinner gives a smoother, more closed surface; wider is faster.
How it works
The top layer is the other face you see. With thin lines packed closely, the grooves between lines are smaller and the surface comes out more even; with wide lines, the striped look is more noticeable.
It only affects the exposed top surface. The solid layers right underneath, the ones that hold it up, use the “Internal solid infill” width.
When to change it
- A box lid or a coaster you want as smooth as possible without ironing: 0.40 or 0.42 mm, and lower the “Top surface” speed.
- A quick prototype where the top face doesn't matter: 0.45 or 0.5 mm.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.40 | Smoother |
| 0.42 | Standarddefault |
| 0.50 | Faster |
Watch out for
- If the surface comes out with gaps or strings, the problem is usually the amount of plastic (the flow) or too few “Top shell layers”, not the width.
- For a truly flat surface, ironing (“Ironing Type”) does more than this setting.
