Skin infill depth
With the “Locked Zag” pattern: how many millimeters of infill, measured inward from the wall, make up the skin. The rest is skeleton.
Not always visible. In Bambu Studio this setting only shows up when “Sparse infill pattern” is “Locked Zag”. See Sparse infill pattern.
How it works
The skin is a band that runs around the inside of the part, right behind the walls. At 2 mm (the default) it covers the area where stress concentrates. If you make it deeper, more of the inside becomes skin, with its own density and pattern.
When to change it
- A box with screws in the corners or a bracket that holds something heavy: 3–4 mm.
- A large part, like a planter, where you only want to reinforce the edge: 1–2 mm.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 1 | Thin skin |
| 2 | Defaultdefault |
| 4 | Thick skin |
Watch out for
- On small parts, a thick skin can fill the whole inside and the skeleton disappears.
- It only shows up with the “Locked Zag” infill pattern.
