Smooth speed changes
Where the wall switches from normal speed to overhang speed (an overhang is a part sticking out into the air), it slows down and speeds up gradually instead of all at once. That gets rid of the marks at those changes.
How it works
When it reaches an overhang, the printer drops the speed a lot, and when it leaves it, the speed jumps back up. That sudden change shows on the wall as a mark or a change in shine, because the plastic is laid down differently on each side.
With this option, the speed changes little by little over a few millimeters before and after the overhang. Cooling is more even and the change doesn't show. In the program it's called “Smooth speed discontinuity area”; it has been on by default since Bambu Studio 1.9.4, and the length of the ramp is set by “Smooth coefficient”.
When to change it
- Almost always, leave it on.
- A bust or figurine with parts sticking out, where stripes or shine changes appear right where the wall starts to stick out: check that it's on. Turning it off is only useful to confirm that the marks come from there.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| On | Default; speed changes on a rampdefault |
| Off | Speed changes all at once |
Watch out for
- The ramp makes the slow stretch a little longer: on parts with lots of overhangs it adds some time.

Using another slicer? Look for the idea, not the name: in Orca Slicer almost everything has the same name; in PrusaSlicer or Cura it may be called something else, or not exist.
