Resolution

How far the nozzle's path can stray from the model's exact shape, in millimeters. Smaller gives truer curves but a heavier file; larger leaves visible facets.

How it works

A 3D model is a mesh of triangles, and a curve is many short segments. Before generating the file with the printer's instructions (the G-code), the slicer simplifies those outlines: it removes points as long as the shape doesn't drift from the original by more than this value.

At 0.012 mm (Bambu profiles) the simplification is invisible. It's also the tolerance used to turn segments into arcs if “Arc fitting” is turned on.

When to change it

  • A model with a huge number of triangles, like a scanned sculpture, that takes forever to slice: raise it to 0.02 or 0.03 mm.
  • A cylinder or a sphere that comes out with visible flat faces: lower the value, or check that the model isn't already faceted from the design.

Typical values

ValueWhat for
0.012Defaultdefault
0.03Faster slicing, still fine
0.1Facets show on large curves

Watch out for

  • Large values (0.3 mm or more) cause something worse than facets: each layer can be simplified differently and the wall comes out misaligned, as if it were vibrating.
  • It won't fix a model that was faceted to begin with: if the file (STL) already has a 20-sided circle, the slicer can't invent the curve.

What Bambu Studio says

G-code path is generated after simplifying the contour of model to avoid too many points and gcode lines in the gcode file. Smaller value means higher resolution and more time to slice
