Filament type
The spool's material: PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU… Temperatures, fan and suitable plates all depend on it.
How it works
Every filament profile has its type, and the rest of the profile is built for that material: temperatures, fan, compatible plates. In the tab it's grayed out: you don't change it here, you change it by picking another filament profile.
The program also uses it to match the profile with the filament loaded in the printer and with the calibration results you saved.
When to change it
- You bought a spool from a brand with no profile of its own: pick the generic profile of the same type (“Generic PETG”, for example) and adjust from there.
- A “PLA+” or “Silk PLA” spool: it's still PLA. Use a PLA profile and find the temperature with the tower in the Calibration menu.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| PLA | The easiest; open printerdefault |
| PETG | Tougher and handles more heat |
| ABS / ASA | Heat and outdoors; enclosed printer |
| TPU | Flexible; prints slowly |
Watch out for
- Picking a PLA profile to print PETG leaves PLA temperatures: the type and the values go together in the profile.
- ABS and ASA shrink a lot as they cool: on an open printer like the A1 they lift and crack easily.
