Print infill first

Prints the infill of each layer before the walls instead of after. It can keep some walls from drooping, but it usually leaves marks on the outer wall.

How it works

Normally each layer starts with the walls and ends with the infill. With this option it's the other way around: first everything that runs flat on the inside (infill, the solid top and bottom layers, bridges) and then the walls.

With the infill already in place, the walls have something to grab onto from the inside; where a wall sits over empty space, resting only on the infill, that holds it up. The trade-off is that the infill gets printed right up to the edge with no wall to contain it, and its ends can push on the outer wall and leave marks.

When to change it

  • Almost never: the default order gives a better surface. Leave it off for figurines, boxes and parts people will see.
  • A part with a ledge on the inside, like the lip of a drawer organizer, where the wall droops inward: try turning it on.

OffDefault; walls, then infilldefault
OnInfill, then walls

Watch out for

  • With infill first, its “ribs” show through more on the outer wall, especially with only 2 walls.
