Support critical regions only
Tree support only holds up what would really fall (tips, tails that reach far out, overhangs attached on just one side) and leaves ordinary slopes without support.
How it works
The slicer detects three cases that are sure to fail without support: overhangs attached at only one end, sharp tips that start in mid-air, and tails that stick far out from the body. These are the “critical regions”.
With this box checked, tree support sticks to those regions and ignores sloped faces that go past the threshold angle. Fewer branches, less time and fewer marks; in exchange, some sloped faces may come out a bit worse underneath.
When to change it
- A dragon or a bird with only a few truly critical spots (fingers, wing tips, tail) and slopes that already come out fine: turn it on.
- When auto fills the part with branches and you only want to secure the essentials.
- Don't use it on parts with large flat faces in the air, like the roof of a box: those don't count as critical.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| Off | Support on everything past the threshold; defaultdefault |
| On | Only tips, tails and floating overhangs |
Watch out for
- It only shows up with the Tree (auto) type.
- Check the preview before printing to see which areas were left without branches.
