Support/object first layer gap
The horizontal gap between the part and the support on the first layer, the most squashed one, so they don't end up joined at the base.
How it works
The first layer is squashed against the plate and spreads out: two things that are almost touching end up fused. If the part and the support join on that layer, pulling off the support takes a chunk of the part's edge with it.
This margin moves the support away from the part only on the first layer; on all the others, “Support/object xy distance” rules.
When to change it
- For almost anything: 0.2 mm, the default.
- Removing a figure's support breaks the bottom edge of the part: 0.3–0.4 mm.
- Thin supports that start next to the part, like those on a miniature, come loose from the plate: 0.1 mm.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| 0.2 mm | Defaultdefault |
| 0.3–0.4 mm | Protects the part's edge |
| 0.1 mm | Thin supports grip better |
Watch out for
- It adds to elephant's foot (a first layer that comes out wider than it should): if yours spreads a lot, raise this gap too.
