Detect floating vertical shells
Finds the stretches of solid infill on sloped faces that have nothing underneath and prints them at bridge speed so they don't droop.
Not always visible. In Bambu Studio this setting only shows up when “Detect narrow internal solid infill” is on. See Detect narrow internal solid infill.
How it works
When the slicer adds solid infill under a sloped face, part of that infill lands on sparse infill or on thin air. Printed at normal speed, that plastic sinks or frays. With this option those stretches are detected and printed slowly, like a bridge.
When to change it
- Leave it on; that's how it comes from the factory. On a dome or the sloped roof of a little house, it keeps the upper face from coming out with dangling strands.
- Turn it off only to save a few minutes on parts where those faces aren't visible, like an internal bracket.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| Yes | Defaultdefault |
| No | Everything at normal speed |
Watch out for
- It works hand in hand with “Ensure vertical shell thickness”: if that option is off, there's little to detect here.
- It only shows up if “Detect narrow internal solid infill” is turned on.

Using another slicer? Look for the idea, not the name: in Orca Slicer almost everything has the same name; in PrusaSlicer or Cura it may be called something else, or not exist.
