Infill combination
Prints the infill once every few layers, thicker, while the walls stay thin. Saves time on large parts printed with low layers.
How it works
Walls need thin layers to look good; nobody sees the infill. With this option the slicer groups the infill of several layers and prints it in one go, with a taller bead of plastic. The walls are still printed layer by layer.
The combined thickness is the largest multiple of the layer height that doesn't exceed the nozzle diameter. With a 0.4 mm nozzle: 0.08 mm layers → infill every 5 layers (0.40 mm); 0.12 → every 3 (0.36); 0.16 → every 2 (0.32); 0.20 → every 2 (0.40). At 0.24 or 0.28 no multiple fits and nothing gets combined.
When to change it
- A large planter or a costume helmet printed at 0.12 mm so the walls look smooth: turn it on and save quite a bit of time.
- 0.24 or 0.28 mm profiles: it does nothing, leave it off.
Typical values
| Value | What for |
|---|---|
| No | Default; infill on every layerdefault |
| Yes | Infill every 2–5 layers depending on height |
Watch out for
- Thick infill needs more plastic per second: if the filament has a low maximum flow (how much plastic it can melt per second), the printer will have to slow down and the savings shrink.
- The solid top layers rest on infill with taller gaps; on large lids you may need one more solid layer.
